Helvetzid was coined by Mo Wa Baile and first used in 2019 in a publication on racial profiling. The term names the systematic deaths of racialized people in Switzerland—in police custody, refugee centers, and hospitals. These deaths are not isolated incidents. They are expressions of structural racism and of deportation regimes embedded within Swiss institutions. We mourn many people killed by Swiss racism. Institutional racism is a deadly reality in Switzerland!
